Students should be given clear guidance on expectations for each assignment with a deadline for submission and deadline for return in line with University policy, a clear brief for what is expected, level of effort expected (such as a word limit), and a clear mark scheme transparent to students which markers will use to assess the assignments handed in.
All Schools should publish and promote an annual schedule of all summative assessments, listing the date of publication of the assessment brief, submission dates and the date on or by which provisional marks and feedback will be returned.
Where practicable, assessments should be submitted electronically by students, through the University’s virtual learning environment and incorporating the use of text-matching software.
